Maggie Zeidman, Town Councilwoman, Town of Palm Beach

On March 15th, the Town Retirement Board met and Town Councilwoman Maggie Zeidman presented an overview of town employee compensation and benefit problems.

In her presentation, she pointed out that there is a revolving door of police and firefighter/medics here less than 5 years. The Town of Palm Beach has become the training ground for area departments at a great cost to our Town. Cost to the town is approximately $100,000 per police officer and can be as high as $130,000.

For Firefighter/ Medics, since 2016, 38 have left the department. 26 had less than 5 years with our Town. The issues for Firefighter/ Medics are a 48 hour work week and a sliding scale employee contribution.

For Police, since 2016, 39 left the department and 24 had less than 5 years. Issues for the Police are pay progression and years to collect.
