Our Town with William Kelly: Jane Le Clainche named CFO of Palm Beach Civic Association

In January, Jane Le Clainche retired after 23 years as the highly regarded finance director for the Town of Palm Beach.

But Le Clainche wasn’t gone for long from the town that she knows so well. On Sept. 18, the Juno Beach resident began her new position as chief financial officer and human resources manager for the Palm Beach Civic Association.

“When I was approached about this position, I was honored and I knew I could make an impact,” Le Clainche said. “I am excited about this opportunity, and I know I will be able to positively contribute to an outstanding organization and a town that I love.”

During her years as a town employee, Le Clainche came to know many members of the Civic Association, a nonprofit organization founded in 1944 with the mission of protecting and enhancing the quality of life in Palm Beach.

The Civic Association’s 135 directors hail from diverse and accomplished professional backgrounds but are unified by a strong sense of community and deep appreciation for the exceptionally high quality of life on the island. Public education plays a large role in that, Le Clainche said.

“The Civic Association has provided outstanding leadership in keeping the citizens informed on major matters of interest occurring in Palm Beach,” she said.

Le Clainche joins a staff of 10 people led by Mary Robosson, president and chief operating officer of the Civic Association. The organization has an annual budget of nearly $2.2 million. Policy is set by a 17-member Executive Committee under the leadership of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Pucillo.

It’s a different setting than the Town of Palm Beach, which has an operating budget of nearly $105 million and the equivalent of 371 full-time employees.

But Le Clainche said her financial duties with the Civic Association are much like those at her prior post. They include maintaining financial transactions, preparing financial statements and reports, handling payroll and benefits, budgeting, working with the organization’s Investment Advisory Committee and with the accounting firm that performs annual audits.

“These are all areas that I know well,” she said. “My background in government finance and accounting seems to be a perfect fit for this role.”

The duties assumed by Le Clainche were previously performed by Andrea Adams, who left her post when she relocated to another state.

Robosson said Le Clainche is the Civic Association’s first chief financial officer.

“As we continue to grow as an organization, the need to identify and designate a top CFO was discussed with our Executive Committee and we are pleased that Jane has accepted this position,” Robosson said. “Her expertise and institutional knowledge of the town and its residents is exceptional.”
