Our Town by William Kelly: Deborah Norville, Daniel Stanton bring added strength to Civic Association’s Executive Committee

A nationally recognized television journalist and a retired financial executive have joined the Palm Beach Civic Association’s Executive Committee.

The new members are Deborah Norville, who has been a Civic Association director since 2021, and Daniel W. Stanton, a Civic Association director since 2023.

Norville anchored the syndicated television news magazine Inside Edition for 30 years before signing off for the last time in May 2025. She is now focused on a new trivia game show called The Perfect Line and set to premiere this fall.

Norville was previously an anchor and correspondent for CBS News and co-host of Today on NBC. Her book, Thank You Power, was a New York Times bestseller.

Norville was the featured speaker at the Civic Association’s January 9, 2025, Signature Series program at The Beach Club, when she shared her insights with an audience of more than 100 people about the rapidly evolving media landscape in the digital age.

Stanton is a retired partner of Goldman, Sachs and Co., where he worked from 1981 to 2003.

He is chairman of the Town of Palm Beach Retirement Board of Trustees, where he is serving his fourth three-year term. The board manages the pension fund assets for town employees.

Both Norville and Stanton recently accepted invitations to join the Executive Committee, which sets policy for the non-profit, educational and community organization founded in 1944.

Michael Pucillo, chairman of the Executive Committee, said Norville and Stanton are highly accomplished in their respective fields and are both great additions to the committee.

“Deborah Norville’s expertise in media and communications, and Dan Stanton’s outstanding background in finance, are particularly helpful to the Civic Association,” Pucillo said. “These are two very strong members, and we’re pleased to have them on the Executive Committee.”

Norville is a Dalton, Georgia native and a 4.0 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia.

She received the 2024 Edward F. McLaughlin Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence in broadcasting.

She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

She and her husband, Karl Gert Wellner, have three children.

Norville said Wednesday she is delighted to have been asked to take on a greater role at the Civic Association during a period of unprecedented change.

“I look forward to working with the entire Executive Committee to ensure that our community serves all its members in the best way possible,” she said.

While at Goldman Sachs, Stanton started the prime brokerage business working with the global hedge fund community. He was also head of private wealth management and equity institutional sales.

Stanton is one of four co-founders of The Park West Palm, a world-class public golf course and learning center in West Palm Beach, designed by Gil Hanse. Stanton was instrumental in raising more than $50 million for the park in three months. The money was used to build the facility and to create an endowment.

Stanton is the non-Executive chairman of Wealth Partners Capital Group, headquartered in Palm Beach. He is past chairman of the board at The Benjamin School.

Stanton holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Canisius College and a master’s in business administration from Columbia University’s graduate school of business.

He and his wife Mary Stanton have lived in Palm Beach since 2004 and have three grown children.

Said Stanton, “My wife and I have lived in Palm Beach for over 20 years and I’m pleased to proud to be part of the Executive Committee, helping the people of our town.”

Civic Association CEO Mary Robosson said the Executive Committee members bring great collective intelligence in support of the Association’s core mission: to protect and improve the quality of life in Palm Beach by taking proactive stands on civic affairs while engaging residents on key town issues.

“We welcome Deborah Norville and Dan Stanton in serving on the Executive Committee,” Robosson said. “Their areas of expertise ensure continued strong leadership for our future.”
