Cleveland Clinic, one of the top hospital systems in the nation and the world, is significantly expanding its patient care with a new hospital and larger outpatient care center in West Palm Beach.
Cleveland Clinic Florida announced in December 2024 plans to build a 150-bed hospital with an emergency department in West Palm Beach and a major expansion of its outpatient services at CityPlace.
The new outpatient clinic will occupy four floors at 15 CityPlace, a 25-story office tower under construction by Related Ross. Groundbreaking was in March 2025 on the building at the former site of the AMC movie theater. It is expected to open in November 2027.
With quadruple the space of its current outpatient facility in CityPlace, which has provided patient care since 2007, the new 120,000-square-foot outpatient center will offer chemotherapy, a concierge program, expanded radiology, infusion therapy, outpatient surgery, imaging, endoscopy and more.
“It’s something we’re very excited about,” Dr. Conor Delaney, president and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic Florida Market, recently told the Palm Beach Civic Association. “The biggest thing is there will be an endoscopy center and a surgical center. We’re really broadening the breadth of the services and adding procedural care.”
Founded by four physicians in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1921, Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit medical center widely recognized for its integration of clinical care with research and education.
Delaney is a colorectal surgeon who joined Cleveland Clinic in 1999. He has led Cleveland Clinic’s Florida market since 2020. He was chairman of the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute at Cleveland Clinic from 2015 to 2020 and is a past president of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
Delaney said Cleveland Clinic’s expansion is possible because of the need in the rapidly growing Palm Beach County community and because of the enthusiastic support from residents and civic leaders.
Cleveland Clinic has received about $150 million in commitments toward its $500 million goal for the new hospital in West Palm Beach, Delaney said. That includes a $50 million gift from real estate developer Stephen M. Ross, a Palm Beach Civic Association director since 2012, through his company Related Ross.
In a written statement for this article, Ross said access to world-class healthcare is fundamental to a thriving community.
“As our region continues to grow, having exceptional hospital care in downtown West Palm Beach will make a real difference for those who live and work here,” Ross said.
In September 2025, it was announced that Cleveland Clinic signed a contract to purchase 5.2 acres where the new nonprofit research hospital will be built next to Clear Lake at 400 and 450 S. Australian Avenue. It will be about 200 yards from the new outpatient center.
The hospital will include an ambulatory surgery center and could eventually be expanded into a 200-bed facility, Delaney said. It could open before the end of 2029.
“We are always excited when hospitals join our system,” Delaney said. “We have learned from building each of those … the best way to set up hospital rooms and provide the best patient experience.”
Cleveland Clinic has had a presence in South Florida for more than 30 years. Cleveland Clinic Weston is ranked as the number one hospital in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale Metro area.
Asked what sets Cleveland Clinic apart from other health care providers, Delaney cited its “100 years of culture,” grounded in a partnership that reaches across medical specialties while always prioritizing the highest quality.
Cleveland Clinic uses an integrated approach to patient care with multidisciplinary teams of medical specialists, Delaney said.
The new hospital will fit into Cleveland Clinic’s system of integrated academic health care in southeast Florida.
“The mission of education and research allows us to recruit physicians who are nationally or internationally known for whatever they do,” he said. “Just like our Weston and Martin County hospitals. It will fit perfectly into the same model.”
Delaney said he expects the new hospital to create about 2,000 jobs. This will attract highly educated, well-paid people to the community.
Tom Mihaljevic, CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic and holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair, has said Cleveland Clinic is committed to an expansion plan that will transform care for the community.
“The community’s visionary leaders challenged us to respond to the region’s growing healthcare needs,” Mihaljevic said. “With the support of the community, we will enhance care through a broad range of specialties and greater access.”
Cleveland Clinic is a corporate sponsor of the Palm Beach Civic Association.
Mihaljevic and Delaney will be the keynote speakers at a Civic Association Signature Series luncheon on February 18 from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Club Colette.
The Signature Series luncheon is being sponsored by Related Ross.
Signature Series programs are open to members at the Leadership/Next Gen & Silver giving levels. There’s a luncheon fee of $50 per person.
