The Town of Palm Beach has issued its first weather alert for Tropical Storm Helene.
The town and all of Palm Beach County is currently under a tropical storm warning because of the storm.
A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, generally within 36 hours. Palm Beach County may expect to receive 2-4 inches of rain, with local amounts as high as 6 inches. There is a 10-20% chance of Palm Beach County experiencing tropical storm-force winds beginning late today through Thursday. A few brief tornadoes are possible this afternoon through Thursday.
The Town does not anticipate any interruption in services at this time.
Helene is moving towards the Northwest near 9 mph (15km/h). This motion should continue, followed by a general Northward motion beginning later today and continuing through Friday. On the forecast track, the center of Helene will pass near the Northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, move across the Eastern Gulf of Mexico later today and Thursday, and reach the Big Bend coast of Florida late Thursday. Maximum sustained winds are now near 65 mph with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecasted, and Helene is expected to become a hurricane later today and likely a major hurricane on Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km) from the center.
Town of Palm Beach Residents can expect deteriorating weather conditions with strong winds and heavy rains beginning later today and through Thursday afternoon. Residents should use caution on the roadways, closely monitor the conditions, and avoid unnecessary trips outside until the storm passes.
