Gift Card Scam Warning

The Palm Beach Police Department is warning residents about an email scam where a request to purchase gift cards comes from someone you know.
The problem is, it’s not from someone you know. It just looks like it is. The scammers make a further request that you share the codes on the gift cards once you buy them. It’s a ‘phishing scam’, intended to cash out the cards using the code numbers. It’s a common ripoff. If the request seems out of the ordinary, open up the sender’s e-mail and make sure it is an exact email address that you recognize.
