Midtown Beach Erosion Plan in the Works

We’ve been reporting about the extreme erosion at the southern end of Mid-Town Beach that has the beach access closed and waves coming over the seawall. At the Town’s Shore Protection Board meeting this week a plan was presented by Publc Works.

Rob Weber, Palm Beach Coastal Coordinator, said that they are hoping for a Federal Government permit soon to truck sand on the beach before the May first Turtle Season begins. They are also planning to construct a groin here to hold the sand in place and slow down the erosion.

Mr. Weber explained that they already have a permit to put sand on the beach; but, the new permit is to use trucks to transport it, rather than the usual pipe from offshore. He’s hoping that will only take a couple of weeks and then present to the Town Council to approve the funding to get the trucks rolling.
