Mary M. Dawkins

Ambassador Mary M. Dawkins served as U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, a wide-ranging domain encompassing seven individual countries.

Ambassador Dawkins is a Board Member of the Council of American Ambassadors, a Founding Member of the United States Diplomacy Center at the U.S. State Department. She has also served on the Board of Blair House, the President’s Official Guest House for visiting Heads of  States in Washington, D.C. In addition, she served as a Trustee of Meridian International, and on the President’s Council of the George W. Bush Institute in Dallas, Texas.

Mary is a former Trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts, appointed by George W. Bush. She is also a Founding Member of the International Committee of the Arts, and a Trustee of the Washington Opera. Ambassador Dawkins has served as Trustee of the Smithsonian Institution, as well as being an Emeritus Trustee of the Institution.

Mary has a remarkably wide-ranging array of experiences. Among them are The American Red Cross, the Prince of Wales Foundation in London, the Friends of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and is a Contributor to the Vatican Museum. In Palm Beach she is a member of the Preservation Society, having won the Ballinger Award for the best renovation of one of Palm Beach’s Historical homes. She is a benefactor of the Society of the Four Arts, and is a long-time member of the Palm Beach Civic Association.

The Ambassador is a member of the following Clubs: Chevy Chase Club, Washington, D.C.; Harry’s Bar, Hertford Street, London; Club Colette; Mar a Lago; the Breakers; Sailfish Club; Emerald Dunes; and the Everglades Club. She is also a member of the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, and the La Jolla Country Club.

She recently became a Member of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital, the oldest and most venerable society that has provided Hospital care on West Bank for almost 150 years.

Mary is a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, with a Bachelor of Science degree. She is married to General Peter Dawkins, and has one son and grand-daughter. She divides her time between Palm Beach, La Jolla, and Palazzo Tournaboni, Italy.

Ambassador Dawkins was recently Knighted, and has become a member of the Dynastic Order of the Royal House of Bourbon.
