Ted Cooney says he will seek a third term on the Town Council.
The third-generation Palm Beacher and Midtown resident filed candidacy papers Tuesday with the Palm Beach Town Clerk’s office.
Cooney said Palm Beach needs good judgement and decision-making in its leadership.
“I have lived here all my life and I see the changes our town is going through,” he said. “I am running again because I know the issues that affect our daily lives. I will continue to find solutions that will restore what we all love about Palm Beach.”
Cooney joined the council in April 2021 after defeating Catherine Rojas in that year’s election.
He was nominated without opposition to serve an additional term in 2023.
Prior to joining the council, Cooney served for a decade on the Landmarks Preservation Commission, where he was first appointed by the council in 2010 at the age of 24. His peers on the commission named Cooney as chairman eight times.
Cooney also served a brief stint on the Architectural Commission before joining the council.
Cooney is one of three incumbents whose two-year terms expire in April. The others, Mayor Danielle Moore and Council member Julie Araskog, have both filed candidacy papers to seek another term.
So far, no opposition has surfaced.
Candidates must be nominated for a specific council seat or office at the annual Town Caucus. This year’s caucus will be on Tuesday, December 3, at 3:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Town Hall.
The caucus is the deadline for any races to emerge. If any of the incumbents are challenged, a town election will be held on Tuesday, March 11.
