Zoning Commissioner Nicki McDonald announced Wednesday she will seek the Group 2 Town Council seat in the March 10, 2026 municipal election.
The Group 2 seat has been held since 2016 by Bobbie Lindsay, who announced in a press release Wednesday that she will retire when her current two-year term expires in April 2026.
A North End resident, McDonald filed candidacy papers to run for the Group 2 seat Wednesday with the Palm Beach town clerk’s office. No one else had filed to run for the seat as of mid-afternoon.
In a press release announcing her candidacy, McDonald said that, with more than 12 years of local service, she has established a strong record of leadership, planning experience, and community engagement.
As a council member, McDonald said she would work to maintain the scale, charm, and quality of life that makes Palm Beach special.
“Palm Beach is a place like no other,” she said. “I’m running to protect what makes our town so unique – while planning carefully and responsibly for the future.”
She said her other priorities would be preservation and planning, infrastructure and water planning, coastal health and safety, and fiscal responsibility.
Lindsay, in the press release announcing her retirement from the council, endorsed McDonald’s candidacy, calling her a “highly qualified, accomplished individual who, in my opinion, is ready to ably serve our town residents on the council.”
McDonald said she is honored to have earned Lindsay’s trust: “I am deeply grateful for her endorsement and the confidence it reflects – I hold that with the utmost seriousness and commitment.”
McDonald is a member of the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission and its Strategic Planning Commission.
She was a member of the Underground Utilities Task Force for two terms.
McDonald’s town involvement began as board president of the Lake Towers condominium building, where she worked with the town to complete the first condominium undergrounding of utilities in Palm Beach.
McDonald has been a Civic Association director since 2019.
The Civic Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It does not endorse political candidates.
To qualify to be placed on the ballot, candidates must be nominated for a specific seat by a registered town voter at the Town Caucus. This year’s caucus will be on Tuesday, December 2, at Town Hall at a time to be announced by the town.
