Tad Smith is a Partner and Co-Founder of 1 RoundTable Partners and a Partner of 10T Holdings. Both are growth equity funds with a technology focus. He is the former President and CEO of Sotheby’s, the NYSE-listed global auction house, which he sold in 2019. Prior to that, he was the former CEO of The Madison Square Garden Company, the NYSE-listed sports entertainment and cable television company. He has been a CEO, president, or managing director for the last 25 years of his career including at TheKey (a homecare company), Cablevision Systems (the New York cable operator now named Altice), Reed Elsevier (the global publishing giant now named RELX), and BMG Entertainment (the music company). He began his career at JP Morgan and also McKinsey & Company. For over two decades Tad has been a professor teaching finance and strategy for technology, media, and entertainment companies at NYU Stern’s business school.
Smith graduated with a BA from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, where he received the RW van de Velde Prize. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School, where he was a Horace W. Goldsmith Fellow and a George F. Baker Scholar.
He lives in Palm Beach with his wife, Caroline Fitzgibbons, who is a former realtor and motion picture literary agent. They have an adult son who is a college student in New York City and a daughter at college in Texas.
