Howard Bernick, is President of Bernick Advisory Limited, a private investment advisory company headquartered in Chicago. Mr. Bernick was born in Canada and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1973. He began his career with CIBC Wood Gundy Limited, a leading investment banking firm, and moved to Chicago in 1974 to join Credit Suisse First Boston. He joined Alberto-Culver in 1977.
At the end of 2006, Mr. Bernick retired as President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director after a thirty-year career at the Alberto-Culver Company, a $5 billion international NYSE listed manufacturer and marketer of personal care and household grocery products and the world’s largest professional beauty supply distribution company through its Sally Beauty Company subsidiary.
Mr. Bernick is currently serving as a director on the Board of Havi Group LP, a global logistics partner of both McDonalds and Starbucks . Mr. Bernick has previously been a Director on several public and large private company boards, including the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company (NYSE:WWY) until its $24 billion merger into Mars, Incorporated in 2008 and Mead Johnson Nutrition Company (NYSE:MJN) until its $17 billion merger into Reckitt Benckiser in 2017 and the Duchossois Group.
In the community, Mr. Bernick serves as a Director of The Palm Beach Civic Association, The Palm Beach Police and Fire Foundation, the Board of Trustees for The Town of Palm Beach United Way and the Field Museum of Chicago. Mr. Bernick is a member of the Worlds Presidents’ Organization, Chief Executives Organization, The Economic Club of Chicago and The Commercial Club of Chicago. Mr. Bernick is also a member of The Upper Canada College Campaign Cabinet in Toronto.
