Mr. Bingham is the executive vice president of Florida Operations at Scripps Research Institute. In this capacity, he oversees and implements institutional policy and strategy on the Florida campus. With his deep legal expertise, he works closely with the Institute’s Finance and Legal departments as well as the Office of Policy, Education & Regulatory Administration and the Office of Sponsored Programs. When the Institute founded its second campus in Florida in 2004, he helped create an effective business strategy for that venture and currently serves as its site head. Prior to being named executive vice president, Mr. Bingham held a number of high-level management positions. He twice served as its COO and, as the chief patent counsel, managed the Institute’s patent portfolio while helping to develop the licensing program for its array of scientific discoveries. Since 2008, Mr. Bingham has also served on the board of trustees of Scripps Health, San Diego’s largest non-profit healthcare system, comprising five hospitals with 15,000 doctors, nurses and staff generating about $3.0 billion in revenue. Mr. Bingham graduated from the University of Maryland and earned his law degree at Western State University. He joined the Chicago law firm of Dressler, Goldsmith, Shore, Sutker & Milnamow as a patent lawyer in 1983 and continued as partner from 1987 to 1991. He holds memberships in a number of professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Association of Corporate Counsel. He joined the Scripps Research Institute in 1991.
