Mr. Johnson is the retired chairman of Franklin Templeton Investments, a money management company with more than $690 billion in assets. His son, Gregory E. Johnson replaces him as CEO and chairman. Mr. Johnson is a principal owner of baseball’s San Francisco Giants. His $250 million gift to Yale University is the largest in his alma mater’s history. Mr. Johnson grew up in Montclair, NJ. He is a former US Army lieutenant. He and his wife, Ann, a medical doctor, divide their time between homes in Palm Beach and Nantucket. They restored the historic Carolands Chateau and turned it over to a foundation for preservation. They have six children.
