City of West Palm Beach Water Meter Replacement Program

The City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department began a water meter replacement program in February, 2010, that is expected to be completed in approximately five months.  The contractor for the City is Utility Partners of America, Inc.

CIVIC ASSOCIATION PRESENTS SMART IRRIGATION STATUS TO TOWN WATER COMMITTEE

“We have good news about smart irrigation in the Town of Palm Beach.” said Harvey L. Poppel, Civic Association Director and Water Resources Committee Chairman at the Town Water Committee meeting on April 26.  “Mainly as an outgrowth of public-awareness activities conducted by the Civic Association, Smart Irrigation Technology (SIRT) installations are proliferating in Town.”

SOUTH FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT CALLS FOR CONSERVATION

Last January, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) entered 2009 during the driest six-month period in South Florida’s history. The month of May set a rainfall record followed by a near-record dry October. The new year begins with caution as the height of the dry season looms once again.

The Civic Association Water Committee public awareness and education campaign; which has included town-wide direct mail, calls to the biggest water users in Town, 3 workshops, e-blasts, and a new webpage: http://palmbeachcivic.org/news/water; resulted in 118 property managers, owners, irrigation contractors, and landscape architects and contractors attending the workshops.

New Florida Statute on Automatic Sprinklers

Florida Statutes (Ch. 373.62) now require that “any person who purchase and installs an automatic sprinkler system shall… install a rain sensor device or switch which will override the irrigation cycle of the sprinkler system when adequate rainfall has occurred.”
