This has been one of the busiest hurricane seasons on record with 16 named storms, including 10 hurricanes and 6 major storms. November usually only has 5% of the storms, vs. 34% of the storms during the season peak in September.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s definition of hurricane season spans half the year, from June 1 through Nov. 30. Those dates were chosen to encompass the vast majority of storms and activity, but, it doesn’t always catch everything.

And this has been an unusual season. In hyperactive seasons, we are nearly four times more likely to get a named storm after Halloween, even into December.
