The officers, directors, and staff of the Palm Beach Civic Association acknowledge with deep appreciation the exceptional life of Richard A. Raffo who passed away on June 21, 2017.

Dick was a prominent community figure. He loved Palm Beach and was dedicated to protecting the island’s unique quality of life.

Over the years, he served as a Civic Association vice chairman, director, executive committee member, and honorary director, and chairperson of the association’s shore protection committee. We will miss his enthusiasm, his sense of humor, and his support for our mission.

Dick was passionate about protecting Palm Beach from the ravages of beach erosion. He served on the Town of Palm Beach shore protection board and became a leading advocate of the Town’s beach renourishment efforts. For years, he argued that building protective groins along the entire Palm Beach coast was the best way to ensure a healthy shoreline.

In addition to his service on the Town’s shore protection board, he was a member of the Town’s code enforcement board and served on the Town’s recreation commission in the early 1990s.

Dick was a retired automobile dealer who owned dealerships on Long Island and in Southeast Florida. He attended Villanova University.

At the Civic Association, we will miss this special man. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family.
