Sofia Rivero was awarded this year’s Town of Palm Beach College Scholarship for children of Town employees during the Town Council meeting this week. The scholarship is sponsored by the Palm Beach Civic Association and the Citizens’ Association and was announced by Mayor Gail Coniglio.

Sofia is the daughter of Water Resource Technician Hugo Rivero and the scholarship is for $3,000. Mr. Rivero has been with the Town of Palm Beach since 1989.

The selection committee for the Town was John Cregan, Civic Association director, Don Singer, Citizens Association First Vice Chair, and Danielle Olson, Palm Beach Director of Human Resources. 

Sofia is graduating from Atlantic Community High School in May and will be attending Florida State University in the Fall. She plans on studying chemistry and biology in her quest to be a pharmacist.

Sofia other accomplishments include volunteering in Relay for Life, honoring, celebrating and remembering cancer survivors and those in the battle; volunteer in community service events hosted by Kiwanis; member of the National Honor Society where she volunteers and tutored other students; and secretary member of Model United Nations. In addition, Sofia is the captain of her school varsity lacrosse team.
