By: R. Michael Brown, Civic Association Communications Director -- Construction began Monday to repair a badly eroded 'hot spot' at Midtown Beach off Gulfstream Road.  The wall separating the beach and the sidewalk was removed so trucks and other heavy equipment could access the beach from Ocean Avenue.

By Tuesday the trucks were rolling in bringing fresh large grain sand to renourish the beach. A groin will also be built to try to hold the sand in place. The cost: $1,742,200 and is expected to be completed by mid-May.

A large portion of the Midtown beach and parking are closed because of the project.
